Australian Professional Photography Awards {APPA} 2011

This was my first year entering the biggest photography competition in Australia and I was very nervous and even considered pulling out a number of times.  Fear is a terrible thing and in the end I was too chicken to enter the wedding category but did decide on entering the documentary category instead.  Even though I’ve made the switch to wedding photography a few years ago now, somehow documentary photography just seemed more familiar and safe.  After all I had been shooting documentary for most of my career.  In hindsight I should of just went for it as I do have a lot of amazing wedding images, but just the thought of going up against the best photographers our country has to offer was too overwhelming.  Any how out of the 4 images I was allowed to enter I came out with one Silver award.  I’ve heard all too often how most photographers completely bom out in their first year entering and walk away with nothing but a bruised ego, so I am very pleased to have walked away with one award.
